When Seasons Change, Everything Else Has To, Too

In Minnesota, a season change isn’t subtle. It shows up overnight - different weather, different routines, and a whole different set of things your home needs to support daily life. Boots to sandals, snow gear away, heavy coats to the dry cleaners….the list goes on and on. It’s a shift—and it’s work.

What often gets overlooked is how much effort that transition takes on top of everything else. Busy schedules don’t slow down just because the weather changed. But your home still needs to adjust, and when it doesn’t, that’s when things start to feel cluttered, chaotic, and harder than they need to be.

The good news? It doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing overhaul.

A few simple ways to make the shift easier:

  1. Clothing - Before you store your winter clothes, do a quick joy check. Do you truly like the item? Will it still fit or be in style? Does it fit your lifestyle?

  2. Kids Gear - Sizing, style, and needs are constantly evolving. When you save “just in case”, it becomes harder to know what fits or doesn’t fit any longer.

  3. Winter Gear - If you haven’t found that matching glove by now, you likely won’t. Wash what you have, assess if it will be needed and will fit next year, and pack it away.

  4. Decor - If you change your decor seasonally, take a picture or make a note of what you have so you don’t repurchase next season.

  5. Garage Clean Out - As you transition seasons, do a quick reset. Group like items together, clear out what’s no longer used, and make the next season’s gear easy to grab.

Summer is our time to be outside—so let’s knock these things off the list now.
