ADHD & Organization: When Your Home Feels Hard to Manage

While ADHD was traditionally thought of as a childhood diagnosis, thankfully, that understanding has started to change over the last several years. According to the CDC, 15.5 million U.S. adults have ADHD, and half received their diagnosis in adulthood. As awareness and understanding of ADHD continue to grow, more adults are recognizing that some of the challenges they have experienced throughout their lives may have an explanation - and that there are strategies and support that can help.

Organized school supplies ready for an ADHD family

ADHD looks different for everyone, but some people may struggle with things like attention, completing lengthy tasks (especially when the task isn't particularly interesting), restlessness, or staying organized. Many people have developed their own ways of navigating these challenges over the years. But add in the responsibility of setting up and running a household - and all the decisions, routines, and stuff that come with it - and things can sometimes feel overwhelming.

This is where a professional organizer can be helpful. My role isn't to create a one-size-fits-all system or tell you how you should organize your home. Instead, we work together to figure out what will work best for you, your family, and the way you naturally function. The goal is to create systems that make everyday life a little easier to manage and maintain. Read more at: ADHD Organizing.

For my clients, that might look like:

  • Breaking big projects into smaller, achievable steps. See my website for more on ADHD organizing.

  • Reducing visual clutter and decision fatigue

  • Creating accountability milestones to keep a project moving forward

  • Body doublingthrough a second set of hands and shared momentum

  • Creating designated homes for everyday items with simple, easy-to-maintain systems

  • Letting go of items without judgment and creating space for what is useful and meaningful to you

If any of this sounds familiar, you don't have to figure it all out on your own. Reach out and let's chat about what would make your home - and your everyday life - feel a little easier.
